Vycinity ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Vycinity mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service. Please read it carefully.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, including:

• Account information — name, email address, and password when you register
• Profile information — location, skills, profile photo, and bio
• Identity verification — government-issued ID documents processed by Stripe Identity
• Payment information — bank account and payment details processed by Stripe (we never store raw card or bank numbers)
• Communications — messages sent through the in-app messaging system
• Gig data — gigs you post, apply for, or complete, including location coordinates
• Reviews — ratings and written reviews you submit

We also collect certain information automatically:

• Device information — device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers
• Location data — approximate GPS coordinates when you use the app (only while the app is in use)
• Usage data — how you interact with the Service, including pages visited and features used
• Push notification token — used solely to deliver in-app notifications to your device

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account
• Match workers with hirers based on location and skills
• Process payments and payouts through Stripe
• Verify your identity to maintain a safe marketplace
• Send push notifications for messages, gig updates, and activity relevant to you
• Enforce our Terms of Service and protect the safety of our community
• Improve and personalize the Service
• Comply with legal obligations

3. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share your information only in the following circumstances:

• With other users — your name, profile photo, skills, location label, and reviews are visible to other Vycinity users as part of normal marketplace functionality
• With Stripe — for payment processing, payouts, and identity verification. Stripe's privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy
• With Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Data is stored securely on Supabase infrastructure
• With Expo — push notification delivery via Expo's push notification service
• As required by law — if required by applicable law, regulation, or legal process
• To protect rights — to protect the rights, property, or safety of Vycinity, our users, or the public

4. Location Data

Vycinity requests access to your device's location while you use the app to show nearby gigs and to attach a location to gigs you post. We only access location when the app is in the foreground. Your exact GPS coordinates are stored privately. Other users only see an approximate distance, not your precise location.

You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings. Without location access some features (nearby gig feed, posting gigs) will be unavailable.

5. Photos and Media

When you add photos to a gig listing, we request access to your photo library. Photos are uploaded to secure storage and displayed on the gig listing. We do not access your photo library without your explicit action.

6. Push Notifications

We use push notifications to alert you to new messages, gig updates, payment confirmations, and other activity relevant to your account. Your push notification token is stored securely and is only used to send notifications from our servers. It is never shared with third parties. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings or within the app.

7. Identity Verification

To maintain a safe marketplace, users must verify their identity before posting or accepting gigs. Identity verification is handled by Stripe Identity, which collects and processes government-issued ID documents on our behalf. We receive only a verified/not-verified status from Stripe. We do not store copies of your ID documents.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the address below. Note that certain information may be retained as required by law or for legitimate business purposes (e.g., transaction records).

Conversation logs, gig records, work-proof photos, check-in records, and location data submitted as part of a gig are retained for fraud prevention, dispute resolution, safety, and platform-integrity purposes for a minimum of 24 months after the gig is completed (or after account closure, whichever is later). These records are used solely for internal investigation when a dispute is opened or when a report of policy violation is received. We do not sell this content to third parties.

9. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS), row-level security on our database, and access controls to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but are committed to protecting your data.

10. Children's Privacy

Vycinity is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your personal information
• Object to or restrict certain processing of your data
• Data portability
